Talk show host, actress, and wife are just a few of the many ways to describe Ellen DeGeneres. And, over the years, there’s another title that holds true: real-estate connoisseur. In fact, through the past few decades, DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have bought, sold, and flipped many millionaire properties.

“We never had a house when I was growing up,” DeGeneres told Architectural Digest back in 2017. “We always rented. But my father would dream, and we used to look at houses all the time. I’d pick out which bedroom would be mine and get all excited.”
Then, when she rose to stardom, DeGeneres had one objective in mind. “The first thing I did when I made money was buy a house. And then—,” DeGeneres said, before de Rossi continued, “another one and another one and another one and another one…”
From smaller homes like the Montecito Cottage they sold for $5.1 million to their record-making deal buying a compound in Carpinteria for $70 million, DeGeneres and de Rossi’s impressive and ever-expanding real-estate portfolio spans different price points, different architectural styles and different locations. Carpinteria Compound ($70 Million)
Image Credit: The Agency/ Dirt DeGeneres and de Rossi ended 2022 on a high by purchasing their most expensive home to date: a compound in Carpinteria worth $70 million, Dirt reported. Breaking it down, the couples bought a $41.7 million Tuscan farmhouse-style mansion and another $28.2 million for the vacant lot attached to it. Overall, the lot covers 10 acres and the main mansion includes five bedrooms and eight baths in just over 9,000 square feet throughout its three levels.
Bel Air Mansion ($29 Million)
Image Credit: Apple Maps/ Dirt In 2022, DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the world-renowned Brown-Sidney House from the midcentury architect Richard Neutra for $29 million. The Bel Air home, once owned by Tom Ford, has three bedrooms, six bathrooms, and mesmerizing views of Los Angeles.
Montecito Home ($13.9 Million)

In September 2021, the pair bought this single-story Montecito home, built in 2018, and quickly put it back on the market for $13.9 million in February 2022.
Coldwater Canyon Home ($8.8 Million)

Approximately eight months later, the home, which has 5 bedrooms and an entire children’s wing, was sold for $8.8 million.
Montecito Cottage ($5.1 Million)

Rancho San Leandro ($21 Million)
Image Credit: Zillow/ Dirt In the first few days of 2023, DeGeneres and de Rossi sold their historic hacienda, called Rancho San Leandro, for $21 million. The home, which belonged to the couple since 2021, had already been bought and sold by them years prior.
In addition to a gorgeous L-shaped main house, the property also includes olive grove and gardens, an al fresco lounging terrace with a fireplace, and equestrian facilities, including a riding ring, four-stall horse stable and a large barn, per Dirt.
Montecito’s Villa Tragara ($36 Million)
Image Credit: Alexis Adam / Dirt In 2022, DeGeneres bought a historic Moorish-influenced mansion called Villa Tragara for $21 million. Less than six months later, she sold the property to music executive Scooter Braun for $36 million. That’s right, she earned a whopping $15 million in profit.
Among the home’s features are a hand-carved marble fountain, a central groin-vaulted colonnade, a state-of-the-art movie theater and steel Corinthian columns throughout. Talk about regal!
The Porter House ($6.75 Million)

DeGeneres and Rossi bought the place in January 2020 before selling it to none other than singer Ariana Grande in June of the same year.
In addition to vintage furniture hand-selected by DeGeneres herself, the home also had some quirky features such as an octagonal library with antique casement windows, a loft-like den that overlooks the fireside living room, and a lofted primary bedroom overlooking a second living room with another fireplace.
