Ellen DeGeneres Scores Eternal Bragging Rights with New Baby Archie Story

As the UK media loves to remind us, access to royal baby Archie has been severely limited — but it seems a certain talk show host made the cut. Ellen DeGeneres detailed a visit with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby Archie in a promo for her new talk show season, revealing a previously unknown stop on her UK trip this past summer. It seems like DeGeneres got very up close and personal with both Archie and his royal parents, and — as usual — she has nothing but good things to say about the Sussex royal family.

DeGeneres is no stranger to hobnobbing with celebrities, but even she had to admit this particular visit left her starstruck. “Here’s a sentence I thought I would never say, but I spent the afternoon with Prince Harry and Meghan,” the host shares in a new clip from upcoming Season 17 of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “The most important thing is I got to hold little Archie, the baby. I fed Archie, I held Archie […] He weighs 15 pounds, which the exchange rate I believe is 17 dollars here,” she jokes.

“Do you want to see a picture?” DeGeneres continues. “I was hoping you’d say no, I don’t have one.” After sharing a doodle of a baby’s face instead, she adds: “He looks just like Harry, and he had more hair than I did at the time.”

While DeGeneres is naturally limited in what she can share about Archie (the Sussexes have made it clear that Archie’s privacy is of the utmost importance to them), she did expand on her admiration for his parents. “They are so amazing, they’re the cutest couple,” the talk show host shares. “I hate it — I see them get attacked and it’s not fair, they’re just two of the most down-to-earth, compassionate people, they’re doing so much good for the world.”

DeGeneres goes on to reference their conservation work in Botswana specifically, mentioning that she and wife Portia de Rossi hope to combine efforts with the royal couple, as they’re currently involved in wildlife conservation in Rwanda. The host has previously defended the couple from public attacks, including recent backlash over the Sussex’s use of a private jet on a trip to France.

On a trip to Amsterdam last week, Harry himself addressed the controversy, offering this statement: “I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial. Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”
