'Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045' Announces Season 2 Release Date With New Trailer

After dropping a first look at its second season last month, Netflix has now followed up with a full trailer for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 season two, along with a long-awaited global release date.

While the first trailer didn’t reveal much about the story for the upcoming season, the new clip explains the main premise of what Motoko Kusanagi and her mercenary GHOST crew will be dealing with. The U.S. has created a new AI simply known as “N,” which has infected the cyberbrains of a vast population, subsequently creating posthumans. Threatening to declare independence, these posthumans plunge the nation into civil war, and Kusanagi and her colleagues are left to save the day once again.

Directed by Appleseed‘s Shinji Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045‘s second season will see the return of a whole host of voice actors, including Atsuko Tanaka as Motoko Kusanagi, Akio Ohtsuka as Batou, Koichi Yamadera as Togusa, Yutaka Nakano as Ishikawa, Toru Ohkawa as Saito, Takashi Onozuka as Pazu, Taro Yamaguchi as Borma, Sakiko Tamagawa as Tachikoma, Megumi Han as Purin Ezaki, Kenjiro Tsuda as Standard, Kaiji Soze as John Smith, Megumi Hayashibara as Takashi Shimamura, and Shigeo Kiyama as Kurisu Otomo Teito.

For fans of the anime, the new season of Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will debut globally on Netflix on May 23.
