GTA 6 planning to cut content to meet late 2024 launch date says new rumour

Fans are divided on whether they’d be fine with GTA 6 cutting content if it means they get to play it sooner rather than later.

While Rockstar has yet to announce anything about Grand Theft Auto 6 beyond the fact that it exists, it’s generally assumed that the game will launch either next year or the year after that.

As such, it stands to reason that an actual trailer will drop later this year, which was already rumoured just a couple of months ago.

However, the latest GTA 6 rumour claims that while the game will be out in either late 2024 or early 2025, that’s only because Rockstar is currently cutting out content.

Supposedly, this will be so the game doesn’t get delayed any further, since it has already been subjected to internal delays over the last few years. However, that cut content should then be added back in as DLC.

GTA 6 has certainly been in development for a very long time (a 2020 report said that development was only halfway done) and Rockstar has been keen to assure everyone that the hacking incident last year didn’t result in a delay.

This newest rumour comes courtesy of Tez2, a prominent Rockstar insider who has made several related claims in the past, including how several projects like a Bully sequel and Red Dead Redemption remaster were shelved so the company could prioritise GTA 6.

Last year, they also said that Rockstar had plans to go back to single-player DLC for GTA 6, in the form of new cities and missions. So, if taken at face value, any cut content would likely be bundled into those DLC plans.

Tez2’s claims appear to have left fans split. In an unofficial GTA 6 subreddit, some have little issue with content being cut if it means they don’t have to wait as long to play it.

‘I’ll be fine with that if those are just online updates or proper story DLCs similar to Episodes From Liberty City,’ says Nicholas7907, referencing Grand Theft Auto 4’s standalone story DLC.

MegaDog3 concurs, saying, ‘I’d be fine with it. I just want the game at this point.’

However, there’s disagreement on whether it’d be better if the cut content comes from the single-player or online multiplayer.

‘If Rockstar is delaying this game because they want a successful GTA Online 2 at launch, I’m going to step on 1,000 Legos bare foot and eat a roll of raw lettuce with mayo,’ says YogurtclosetIcy4328.

xmarcotics admits they’d much rather the game be delayed than for any content to be cut, saying: ‘We’ve been waiting this long, what’s one more year?’

Other fans are dubious about Tez2’s claims in general, believing that they’re simply speculating and know as much about GTA 6 as everyone else. Which is to say nothing.

Although Tez2 has always seemed relatively well respected in the fan community, the complete lack of official information means it’s impossible to confirm or deny anything until Rockstar make an announcement.
