H.E.R. returned to the Grammys stage to deliver yet another show-stopping performance on Sunday. The Grammy-winning and 21-time-nominated singer performed “Damage,” interpolating “Making Love in the Rain” by Herb Alpert featuring Lisa Keith and Janet Jackson, and “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” alongside Lenny Kravitz, Travis Barker, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. And it’s safe to say, they brought the house down!
This year, H.E.R.’s eight Grammy nominations dominated nearly all the R&B categories — which included best R&B song, best R&B album, best R&B and traditional R&B performance. She ended up taking home the award for best traditional R&B performance for “Fight For You.”
In a recent interview with POPSUGAR, the 24-year-old spoke about her accolades and shared that she receives them as confirmation that “I’m doing something right.” “I feel like it’s kind of telling me I’m here for the long game,” she added. “I’ve been working so hard in music and on my craft that for this to happen, I dreamt about this. It’s kind of like, OK, I’m here, and I’m here to stay. Like I earned my stripes or something, but it’s really special.”
H.E.R. is also beefing up her acting credits, as she’s set to star in the upcoming “Color Purple” musical movie. The “Damage” singer was the first star announced to join the cast — which also includes Ciara, Halle Bailey, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, and Colman Domingo. “I was so nervous about it, I’m not going to lie,” H.E.R. told POPSUGAR of her first major acting role. “Because ‘The Color Purple’ is such a big film and I really want to show up and do my thing. But I’m just thankful for the opportunity. I think it’s going to be fun.”
Between her film role, Grammy wins, and Oscar win, H.E.R. is halfway to EGOT status. At the rate she’s going, she could very well reach her goal in just a few years because she certainly has the ambition that will take her far in the entertainment world.
