Happy Valley’s Con O’Neill has promised a spectacular conclusion to the Sally Wainwright drama as it draws to a close.
The Nolly actor, 56, plays Neil Ackroyd in the gripping series, the partner of Clare Cartwright (Siobhan Finneran), who gets himself into a spot of bother with Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire).
Neil, along with Clare, has been accompanying Ryan Cawood (Rhys Connah) to visit his psychopath father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) in a double betrayal for Catherine.
In the penultimate episode, the family are being kept from harms way in a safe house, while Tommy, who busted out of court, is on the loose and plotting to kill Catherine and take Ryan to Spain.
Of course, details are being kept under wraps, but fans are predicting at least one major death, and Holly Willoughby, 41, and Phillip Schofield, 60, couldn’t resist probing the Our Flag Means Death star about the conclusion on Thursday’s This Morning.
Noting that Con would not be able to spill any storylines, the Wylde Moon founder said that it had been reported Happy Valley will have a ‘satisfying ending’ and the Chernobyl performer agreed.
‘When I read the script for the last episode it blew my mind,’ Con remarked, while Holly joked: ‘That’s all I need.’
Con added: ‘Sally has written an extraordinary ending to this show.’
The Midsummer Murders actor also revealed he was unaware of the colossal reaction to season 3 of Happy Valley as he had been away filming in New Zealand and LA when it was first released.
He said that as soon as he got off the plane he noticed people were whispering, adding that he has been receiving ‘bizarre’ DMs about the show.
Even Con’s friends have been getting in on the action, with the actor saying his pals had been messaging him theories about Neil.
Tommy actor James Norton, 37, has recently opened up about the ending, revealing the original was scrapped.
‘We had one version of the end that didn’t feel quite right,’ the McMafia star told The Big Issue. ‘Sally knew it and Sarah spoke up and said it doesn’t feel right.
‘A month later, we got a new script and it all fell into place. It was magical
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV while Happy Valley concludes on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
