Holly Willoughby is back on This Morning and viewers’ jaws dropped at her bizarre re-introduction.

In a fever dream opening, the cast of the ITV show burst into song with a Mamma Mia mash-up, building up to the presenter’s return.

The 42-year-old has been off the air for two months for her summer break, which came shortly after the exit of longtime co-star Phillip Schofield.

She teased the end of her break with a well-timed stint on Midsomer Murders, receiving mixed reviews from unconvinced viewers.

As her This Morning co-stars danced around her, Holly walked out with co-host Alison Hammond to Dancing Queen, singing along and having a little shimmy.

Viewers were so confused at the musical extravaganza, which had both the London West End performers and various presenters having a singsong and dance.

Abba’s hits like SOS and Take a Chance were belted out before the moment fans had been waiting for, the return of Holly.

While the presenters were clearly enjoying themselves, some viewers were less impressed with criticisms of it being ‘cringe’ and ‘hellish’.

Holly laughed with Alison, with both saying they were ‘out of breath’ as they arrived in the studio having ‘run’ from the Mamma Mia staging.

She was in good spirits as the duo laughed about ‘Holly’s balls’, clearly having enjoyed the absurd entrance.

Fans weren’t so keen, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their confusion and downright dislike for the baffling choice.

‘This is it, we’ve reached peak cringe,’ wrote one viewer, while another said: ‘It’s 10am, we don’t need a musical.’

A third added: ‘What on earth is this fresh hell??’

One viewer scathed: ‘If there’s a more cringe inducing show than #ThisMorning I’d like to know.’

James Martin’s appearance sparked some chatter as people laughed that he wasn’t ‘being paid enough’.

Gyles Brandreth’s outfit got a lot of love though as his pink jumper had people asking if he was ‘an extra in Barbie’.

Some did enjoy the bizarre entrance, with one writing: ‘I’m the only one liking this?’

If you ask the internet – yes they were the only one who enjoyed that fever dream.

This Morning airs at 10am every weekday on ITV.
