Hyundai-owned Genesis has now broken the world record for the most drowns flown in the air at the same time.
Titled Genesis of Genesis, the performance involved a whopping 3,281 drones lighting up the Shanghai night sky in front of the city’s iconic cityscape. While it was indeed a publicity stunt for the automotive company, the show nonetheless broke the Guinness World Record for the largest number of unmanned aerial vehicles being flown in the air at the same time, previously held by China’s Shenzhen Damoda Intelligent Control Technology, which flew 3,051 drones back in September last year. That record now pushes Russia’s own 2,200-drone show down to third place, followed by Intel‘s performance over Folsom, California with 2,066 drones in July of 2018.
“At the heart of the Genesis promise is the daring spirit to do things differently,” says the automaker’s CEO Markus Henne. “Our first-ever moment in China was a special opportunity to engage with our audience and show what Genesis is about. With this record-breaking drone performance, we brought our brand story and philosophy to life for many Chinese consumers. Soon, we will bring even more inspiring Genesis experiences and products to the consumers in China.”
