When I say it’s a busy time in Harry Styles land, I’m seriously not joking. In the lead-up to the release of his second album, Fine Line, Styles prepared to drop a second single called “Adore You” to follow “Lights Up.” But rather than be like any old artist and casually tweet a title and date, he stepped so far outside the box that he ended up in a fake land called Eroda.
Yes, our king of doing the most created a whole world called Eroda that started popping up on the internet toward the end of November. With a Twitter, an Instagram, a dedicated website, and more, Eroda seemed like it could be a real place. The problem was, nothing on this travel website led to any real places you could book or visit. Reddit had a field day trying to figure this out, a Discord was created to talk more, and all the while the Eroda Twitter account was just humming along tweeting at Styles’s fans with little tidbits about the isle.
Because yes, Styles’s fans made the connection between the British singer and Eroda rather quickly. They made the connection before a clip was planted in theaters and on Twitter and long before the posters for “Adore You” showed up in New York. It was easy to see Eroda is just Adore spelled backward, and with clues on the site that reference other tracks on the album, the connection seemed obvious to fans.

And then the trailer (yes, a trailer for a new single!) dropped on Dec. 2, and all was confirmed, and, friends, we need to talk about this. In a short video narrated by Rosalia, we learn of a peculiar young boy who lives on the isle of Eroda. It’s a cloudy, sad place that doesn’t know what to make of this boy who wants to smile. The boy is forced to bottle up his emotions until he reaches the point where he can’t go on. And as we watch Styles walk out into the ocean with rocks in his pocket, the voiceover says, “Loneliness is an ocean full of travelers trying to find their place in the world, but without friendship, we are all lost and left with no hope, no home, no harbor.”
Do you like crying on Monday mornings? Because that’s exactly where this sent me. Styles should never look so sad and hopeless. It’s just not right. There are plenty of other theories floating around about the symbology in this video and how it’ll turn around into a bright, happy ending, but we’ll just wait to see how it all plays out when the song and video land on Dec. 6. And for the record, if that beat playing in the background of this trailer turns out to be “Adore You,” then I might have just found my new favorite Styles song.
