This past May, Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from the NBA after 19 seasons. Throughout his career, the Brooklyn-born baller earned respect from across the league as one of the most prolific scorers and earned himself the honors of being a three-time Olympic gold medalist and being named one of the 75 greatest NBA players. And to celebrate his illustrious career, Jordan Brand sent him a care package centered around the Air Jordan 2 that honors his playing days with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks.
Both pairs are embellished with gilded accents atop the heels, tongues and eyelets to nod to his three Olympic Gold Medals with Team USA. One pair is fitted with a solid black base and comes accented with quilted orange interior liners and piping as well as bold blue laces and heel molds to call out his time with the New York Knicks. Its sibling is engineered with crisp white leather uppers and is accessorized with baby blue and yellow accents to nod to his early career seasons hooping in the mile-high city.
The box is lined with graphics that reference his “Hoodie Melo” persona, a call-out to him being Jordan Brand’s first signature athlete after MJ, the different jersey numbers he sported over his career along with a “Stay Melo” hit.
For other news, an Air Jordan 2 “Crystal Mint” colorway has been unveiled.
