JW Anderson's FW22 Motif Is a Friendly Elephant

Jonathan Anderson‘s eponymous British brand, JW Anderson, is in the midst of a revival. Not only is the lauded designer returning to London Fashion Week next season, following up on his knock-out Spring/Summer 2023 show in Milan earlier this year and another Tom of Finland collaboration, but he has now released much of his FW22 collection, injecting fun into our fits once more. It’s what JW Anderson is known for — irreverence, kitsch, tongue-in-cheek humor, and wrapping this all up in beautifully designed and cut pieces for something truly wearable; and this rings true for the designer’s new elephant motif capsule.

As seen on the runway, the collection comprises more than 20 pieces that each work the new elephant graphic into their design in their own ways. For example, a relaxed fit, drop-shoulder shell jacket features an all-over digital print that sees either a red or blue base kitted out in the JW Anderson grid logo motif and a repeated elephant character, while wide leg trousers in the same composition make for a full tracksuit, especially when paired with the matching bum bag or asymmetrical bucket hat.

This same design works a T-shirt, tote bag, and a cap, but is altered when it comes to more sartorial garments like the oversized polo shirt. Presented in white, this boxy shirt is completed with blue stripes on the collar and a digital print of a blue and green elephant. This style informs a formal white shirt that sees its buttons sport an elephant’s eye on them, while a duo of turtle neck sweaters and the JW-signature intarsia neckband complement a pair of socks with its black and red design that’s softer than the aforementioned offerings.
