Kanye Reportedly Lost Out on $8 Million USD by Quitting Coachella

According to reports, Kanye West stepped away from a major payday by canceling his Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2022 set. It has been reported that Ye was set to receive $8 million USD and an additional $500,000 USD production fee for his headlining performances originally planned for April 17 and 24.

Word of Kanye West dropping out of Coachella comes after the artist threatened to pull out if Billie Eilish did not apologize to Travis Scott. The demand was a result of a clip of Eilish delivering what some believe to be a dig at Scott over the tragedy that occurred at Astroworld Festival 2021. It is unclear if the feud was really what pushed Ye to drop out, but sources note that the artist seemed to be thinking about canceling for a while. For the last few months, Ye’s team had been working with Coachella organizers, the artist had yet to rehearse for his planned sets.

Looking for a new headliner, Coachella organizers recently announced that The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia would step in as co-headliners. The announcement reportedly almost didn’t happen, as Coachella organizers initially looked to pay The Weeknd significantly less than Ye’s compensation. Ultimately, the two parties reached an agreement before officially announcing the co-headlined replacement.
