Kehlani Announces Release Date for New Album 'Blue Water Road'

Kehlani has announced that her new album Blue Water Road will be released on April 29 via Atlantic.

Details on the forthcoming record are scarce, though it is known that the project features executive production by Pop Wansel of Pop & Oak. To date, Kehlani has released two songs ahead of the project’s release: “Altar,” which arrived last fall, and “Little Story,” which was released last month.

“Blue Water Road is a destination in my mind,” said Kehlani in a press release. “I’m giving everyone access. It’s an emotional journey, a sexual journey, and a spiritual journey. To me, the album is like a glass house. It’s light, transparent, and the sun is shining right through it.”

The R&B songstress first announced the album on social media in September of last year, with a short trailer and an elusive caption: “coming out of the rubble of It Was Good Until It Wasnt and into the light, on to the road. let’s have fun.”

The upcoming record follows 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, which was named one of HYPEBEAST’s Best Albums of 2020. The 15-track effort included features from Jhené Aiko, Masego, Lucky Daye and James Blake, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
