Back in December of 2020, Riot Games announced that it’d be developing an MMO based on its massively popular MOBA franchise League of Legends, but it now turns out that the game might now be released at all. Taking to Twitter to give fans updates about the yet-to-be-named title’s development, Riot‘s executive producer Greg Street said that the game might never be shipped. “There is no guarantee this game will ship,” the developer remarked. “We are optimistic, but you just never know until it does. However assuming it does, this will be the fourth major franchise I have worked on ([Age of Empires, World of Warcraft, League of Legends]), and likely the last. And I am very okay with that. It will be a good final act.”
Despite these comments, Street also reassured fans that development is currently “going super well,” and that he simply wanted to acknowledge the high standards from Riot. “I am just being honest that Riot’s game standards are high and so are the expectations of players,” he added. “We won’t ship a disappointing game.”
For now, there’s no release date or window yet for the long-awaited League of Legends MMO, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates to come.
Elsewhere in gaming, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is receiving physical collector’s edition releases for the Nintendo Switch.
