LeBron James Rookie Card Ties Record as Highest-Selling Sports Card at $5.2M USD

Whether it is on or off the court, LeBron James has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. With four NBA championships, four NBA Finals MVP, 16 All-NBA selections, 17 All-Star appearances and a Rookie of the Year award, James can now add a record-breaking rookie card to his illustrious list of achievements.

Recently, PWCC Marketplace announced on social media that a 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Basketball rookie card of the Los Angeles Lakers guard sold for a record $5.2 million USD. the amount tied with the sale of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle for the highest-priced sports trading card ever to be sold. The Mickey Mantle card sold for $5.2 million USD just this January 2021.

The collectible featured a rookie patch autographed by The King himself. The card is limited to only 22 pieces, but the card has “quickly become the crown jewel of all sports card investing,” according to PWCC. The card is given a Beckett grading of nine, the third best-graded card in the collection of 22.
