Marmite smooth peanut butter hits UK supermarkets in controversial new launch

If the idea of mixing Marmite and peanut butter together doesn't completely disgust you, and you haven't already tried their crunchy peanut butter version, your dreams may have just been answered.

With such a close vote in Marmite's 'Nuterendum' poll on their Twitter last year, it was only right they released a smooth peanut version too.

They put the question out to their customers to find out whether they preferred crunchy or smooth peanut butter.

But it turns out with over 100,000 votes, the nation was divided – 48 per cent opted for smooth and the remaining 52 per cent choose crunchy.

Rachel Chambers, marketing manager at Marmite, said: "The response to Marmite Peanut Butter Crunchy was astounding".

"We’re thrilled to offer a smooth option to satisfy consumers looking for a smoother texture on their toast".

The 225g jar of Marmite smooth peanut butter can now find in selected Morrisons stores for £2.50.

And it seems the 'Nuterendum' isn't over just yet.

Fans have been very vocal about their favourite Marmite spread since the launch of the smooth peanut butter flavour.

Some have even begged other supermarkets to stock the smooth version.

One person said: "Just when you thought peanut butter couldn’t get any better @marmite come up with this #YESYESYES"

Another said: "I wasn't sure… But the verdict's in…. IT'S IMMENSE!!!!!!"

However, others are disgusted: " Smooth peanut butter in any flavour is ABHORRENT. It should be outlawed, made an offence and you should be fined when you buy or eat it especially when it sticks to the top of your gob (sorry palate). CRUNCHY ALL DAY LONG FOR ME."

Someone else said: "Smooth peanut butter should be illegal."

The decision to expand their product line again came after the success of their crunchy peanut butter flavour in March of last year – the first product adaptation since it was established in 1902.

Only a month before Marmite launched their crunchy peanut butter edition, actor John Barrowman shared a snap to his Instagram of his very own make-do Marmite and crunchy peanut butter English muffins.

And when he found out, he tweeted: "I need some NOW! How do I get it here in West Hollywood?"
