Meghan Markle reveals why she stopped watching Real Housewives

Meghan Markle got honest with Real Housewives mastermind Andy Cohen about why she gave up watching the franchise.

The blockbuster show’s first series followed the glamourous and dramatic lives of a group of affluent pals living in Beverly Hills, making stars out of Kyle Richards and Lisa Vanderpump.

The OG show, which now stars Garcelle Beauvais and Sutton Stracke, has now been running for more than a decade, while there have been other spin-off housewives shows made across the world.

The Duchess of Sussex confessed she was a ‘huge fan’ of the franchise but no longer tuned in while chatting to Andy about his career.

Meghan, 41, told the executive producer, 54, that she was desperate to appear on his show Watch What Happens Live, which sees Andy and guests reflect on the events in Real Housewives.

She said: ‘I was so eager to be on your show because I was such a Housewives fan at the time and I just couldn’t get booked Andy. So thanks for being here with me.’

Andy then went on to explain in Meghan’s Archetypes podcast that not booking her was the programme’s’ biggest blunder’ to date.

He continued: ‘I guess the million-dollar question is, do you still watch the Housewives? This is what we’ve been dying to know.’

Being completely honest, Meghan replied: ‘Well, I will tell you the truth. I stopped watching the Housewives when my life had its own level of drama.

‘That I stopped…’ before Andy jumped in and finished her sentence, adding ‘craving other people’s.’

Meghan explained: ‘I get why it was such a huge huge part of pop culture and when it began because you began with Orange County and I’m from California, at least. It felt remotely like a world that I knew but still felt so foreign.’

However, she said that ‘almost all of my friends’ continue to watch the Real Housewives, congratulating Andy on making a show ‘entertaining and familiar’ and for ‘creating an empire.’

Meanwhile, Meghan is reportedly readying herself for the release of her docu-series made with hubby Prince Harry on Netflix.

While little is known about the upcoming show, it’s been claimed that an exact release date has been settled upon, with it being reported by Page Six that it’ll be dropping on the site on Thursday December 8.

In August, Meghan teased viewers a little bit about what they can expect from the doc in an interview with The Cut, explaining that it would shine a spotlight on her relationship with her husband.

‘The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story,’ she said.
