MGMT, the indie rock band of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, will be coming out with their fifth studio album via Mom+Pop. The project is called Loss of Life and will follow 2018’s Little Dark Age.
The band notably takes several years, putting an immense amount of effort and thought into each project. Little Dark Age arrived five years after its predecessor, the self-titled MGMT LP. In pattern, Loss of Life is set to arrive in 2024, five years after Little Dark Age.
For the project, VanWyngarden and Goldwasser co-produced the LP themselves, alongside longtime collaborators Patrick Wimberly, and Dave Fridmann.
“All joking aside (never!), we are very proud of this album and the fact that it was a relatively painless birth after a lengthy gestation period, and are happy to be releasing this baby into the world with Mom+Pop,” the band said. “Musically speaking, we are running at around 20% adult contemporary and no more than this, please.”
Loss of Life clocks in at ten tracks in total. Among them is a collaborative single with French artist Christine and the Queens. Ahead of the release, the band has shared the first song from the project, “Mother Nature,” along with an animated video.
