Watchmaker and frequent NASA collaborator, Anicorn, is celebrating the return of the American space agency’s iconic ‘Worm’ logo with a limited edition watch designed by the logo’s original creator, Richard Danne.
The Space Watch is Danne’s first ever watch design and is presented in two colors; with 150 pieces in both Space Black and Jet Silver, with rotating planets representing hours and minutes.
Danne, who is now 90-years-old, said of the project: “This watch design is inspired by Space itself – its beauty, its silence, its rotating planets. The project caps an extraordinary involvement with the NASA family, one like no other and very close to my heart.”
The Space Watch is based around a Miyota 9015 4Hz automatic with 42 hours power reserve and is presented in a vacuum-packed, double-layered metal film canister with an embroidered NASA patch, a numbered, autographed plate, booklet and both a black stainless steel bracelet and black leather strap.
Danne & Blackburn presented NASA with a single logo design in 1974, which replaced the original ‘Meatball’ logo and represented everything the agency did until the early 1990s. But now the flowing typeface of the Worm is back, emblazoned on the side of Demo-2, the first manned test flight of Space X’s Falcon 9 in May.
The Space Watch is available to order now via Anicorn, priced $1,030 USD with delivery expected in late October.
Elsewhere in watches, Reservoir offers diving session with famed underwater photographer with new bronze Hydrosphere limited edition.
