Netflix might have just unveiled its most perplexing series, to date.
Viewers are scratching their heads after watching the newly debuted trailer for Sexy Beasts, the streaming platform’s latest dating show that has hopeful singles disguised in high-quality prosthetics, mimicking a range of cartoonish animals and aliens, in a true testament of blind-date romance. In a Masked Signer meets Love Is Blind crossover, the show strives to prove that looks aren’t everything.
“No, you’re not hallucinating. Sexy Beasts is a new dating show that uses cutting edge prosthetics to put true blind-date chemistry to the test,” Netflix wrote in a Tweet.
Sexy Beasts, which originally ran as a British series on BBC in 2014, has already received the green light for two seasons on Netflix. The first season shows disguised dates across the U.K. and the U.S., filmed last year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each episode will focus on one lovelorn singleton and their quest to find love among three potential suitors. After going on three dates, the beastly bachelor or bachelorette will decide who they would like to meet without a mask on. From there, the duo will be matched on numerous dates to gauge whether or not they have a true connection, sans a physical first impression.
“With an international cast featuring some truly brilliant characters, a host of prosthetics which look extraordinary in 4K and with Rob Delaney narrating, the viewers are in for a real treat,” says Simon Welton, creator and executive producer for Lion TV, in a statement to Variety. “I hope the show puts a smile on peoples’ faces as they play along to discover who’ll fall in love with who, and what our cast all really look like.”
Sexy Beasts will land on Netflix on July 21.
Elsewhere in entertainment, a new Karen movie trailer surfaced and Twitter is calling it a bootleg Get Out.
