Nicholas Cage is “a remarkable nobody” in A24‘s R-rated comedic tale Dream Scenario. Cage plays Paul Matthews, a college professor-everyman who also appears in everyone’s dreams – and nightmares.
As The Cranberries‘ “Dreams” plays in the background, the first official trailer follows Matthews as he eventually reaches viral-level notoriety for inexplicably appearing in everyone’s dreams and nightmares. “Paul, you’ve been on my mind recently,” Julianne Nicholson’s character conveys, approaching Matthews amidst a crowded theater. “You keep popping up in my dreams… You don’t do anything. You’re just there.”
It’s not just Nicholson who is experiencing the phenomenon; as the trailer progresses, more characters recognize Matthews’ face from last night’s nightmare, landing him on global news and as a coveted interview subject. “Who has actually had a dream about me?” Matthew poses to his college class – to which everyone in the lecture hall raises their hands.
Dream Scenario also stars Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula, Dylan Baker and Kate Berlant, and is slated to debut in theaters on November 10. Sick of Myself writer-director Kristoffer Borgli makes his English-language debut spearheading Dream Scenario‘s production alongside Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Tyler Campellone, Jacob Jaffke and Cage as well.
