Nicki Minaj has dropped off the official music video for her chart-topping track, “Super Freaky Girl.”
The visual, directed by Joseph Kahn, sees Minaj cosplay as Rick James, whose 1981 hit “Super Freak” is sampled on the single. She also appears as an animated, knife-obsessed Nicki Barbie, complete with a robotic pet dog, a head-to-toe pink fit and her very own Ken, played by Alexander Ludwig.
The video arrives after Minaj accepted the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, where she also performed a decades-spanning medley of some of her most popular tracks, which included “Super Freaky Girl” and her fan-favorite “Monster” verse.
Following its release, “Super Freaky Girl” earned a total of 21.1 million streams, 4.6 million radio airplay audience impressions and 89,000 downloads sold in its first week, placing it in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The single marks Minaj’s first-ever solo No. 1 hit and her third overall, following 2020’s “Trollz” with 6ix9ine and Doja Cat’s “Say So.”
Minaj recently tapped her famous alter-ego Roman for a remix of the popular cut, which clocks in one minute longer than the original recording with an additional verse.
