Only Watch 2021 is bringing in the heavy hitters for this year’s charity watch auction. With over 54 participating brands, Audemars Piguet has submitted one of their most iconic and hard-to-reference pieces in its repertoire.
The Royal Oak 15202 “Jumbo” Extra-Thin is typically constructed out of stainless steel or precious metal, however, this particular model is made with titanium, making it an ultra-rare collectible. Part of the reason why this watch is limited edition is not just because of its titanium make-up, but platinum is also used to contrast the titanium polishing.
Like all other 15202 models, the watch is 39 mm x 8.1 mm. The titanium casing is featured in the crown, bracelet and middle and features the brand’s distinctive sandblasted matte finish. A first for the watch brand, the wrist piece sees the bezel, bracelet studs, case back and part of the clasp completely made out of the new palladium-based alloy known as the bulk metallic glass. This material also provides the 15202 with the matte gray titanium color that offers eye-catching contrasts to the watch.
The dial of this AP watch features a dark grey colored “petite tapisserie” pattern that features the Swiss watch brand’s original typography in the signature and monogram that can be seen on the initial Royal Oak 5402 series. The piece is engraved with the wors “Unique Piece” on the back of the frame of its sapphire case back. The AP 15202 Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin is near impossible to purchase and is expected to be the final unique 15202 with powered automatic caliber 2121, which has been in production since 1972. A new generation of the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin are set to arrive in 2022.
In case you missed it, Hamilton has dropped the Khaki Field Mechanical in bronze.
