Persona 3 remake and Persona 5 spin-off evidence emerges ahead of Xbox Showcase

Fans think that new domain name registrations point towards the Persona 3 remake and another Persona 5 spin-off being real.

After Atlus’ 25th anniversary celebrations for the Persona series proceeded to announce no new games whatsoever, there’s hope amongst fans of at least one reveal this summer.

The big one is the remake of Persona 3, which is rumoured to be appearing at the Xbox Games Showcase this weekend, on June 11 at 6pm BST.

Although there’s never been any concrete evidence of its existence (aside from purportedly leaked footage that most people agree are fake), fans believe they’ve found the best proof for it so far: an updated domain name.

For context, a P3RE.JP domain name was registered back in March. Although there are no signs it has anything to do with Atlus, and it doesn’t work, the obvious conclusion is that this is for a Persona 3 remake website.

Trademarks like this usually don’t guarantee a game’s existence. Sometimes companies register website domains like this just so no one else can.

However, as discovered by fan site Persona Central, that domain name has been updated, moving it from the Onamae nameservers (a Japanese domain registrar) to the Amazon ones.

This is apparently a common practice for Atlus as it’s done the exact same thing for previous domains, with new games being announced shortly afterwards. For example, Persona 5 Royal was formally revealed less than a week after the P5R.JP domain name switched servers.

Combined with the Xbox rumour, it’s not unreasonable to assume that the Persona 3 remake will be announced by the end of the week.

Atlus itself is certainly teasing some kind of announcement in the near future. It will have a panel on July 3 at this year’s Anime Expo, and its listing on the schedule reads: ‘By the time you’re reading this, the cat is out of the bag.’

There are also rumblings of another Persona 5 spin-off being in the works thanks to a domain name for P5T.JP. It was discovered last month and was registered on May 16 and, much like the P3RE domain, was updated to switch to the Amazon servers.

The domain name registration gives no clue as to what the game is but reliable leaker Pan-hime claims that whatever it is it’s not a fighting game or a mobile title.Although it’s not clear if they know what it actually *is*, or if they just know it’s not either of those two things.

For now, the only new Persona project fans know of is mobile spin-off Persona 5: The Phantom X, which is in development at Chinese studio Black Wing Games Studio.

It lacks a Western release date but otherwise looks like a bona fide Persona 5 sequel, boasting a new story and characters, but it’s free-to-play with in-app purchases and gacha mechanics.
