Rina Sawayama is back with the bonus edition of her 2022 record, Hold the Girl. The updated album includes two new songs, including a fresh iteration of “Imagining,” with a feature from Amaarae, and a new track, dubbed “Flavour of the Month.”
The original record arrived in September of last year as Sawayama’s sophomore endeavor. The album, which takes its name from a term the artist came up with in therapy to describe tending to her inner child, included 13 tracks, such as “Minor Feelings” and “This Hell.” There were no features on the initial release.
“Oftentimes when I’ve failed, I haven’t felt love from my family, and that’s been the big struggle,” Sawayama told Pitchfork at the time of the album’s release. “That’s what the record is about—reparenting yourself. That’s something I did because I felt like I didn’t get enough support in such key moments in my life.”
Since dropping Hold the Girl, Sawayama has kept herself quite busy: notably, she starred in John Wick: Chapter 4; she covered Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and she dropped “Kiss Me” with Empress Of, among many other things.
