Sandy Liang and Salomon's Collaborative Capsule Salutes Singular Style

Sandy Liang is a born-and-raised New Yorker with an eponymous brand that offers thoughtful-yet-playful garments made with meticulous attention to detail and deeply-layered cultural references. Salomon, on the other hand, is a French outdoor goods company that started making ski equipment in 1947 before branching out to footwear in the early ’90s — exactly when Liang was coming of age in the Big Apple.

The two’s origins may be worlds apart, but they share an appetite for quality, storytelling and offering unique products. “Salomon and Sandy Liang are both brands that thrive off of our own history,” says Liang. “We are not trend-driven and are committed to making great products, figuring out who we are and designing for the moment we are in.” When their backstories are viewed through that lens, and you note that Liang has heavily featured Salomon footwear in her runway presentations since her SS21 show, it seems only right that they’re joining forces for two co-created footwear styles: an XT-6 Expanse and an RX Moc 3.0.

The XT-6 Expanse — a modified take on the ultra-popular XT-6 that features regular laces in place of Salomon Sportstyle’s standard speed lacing system and also adds a heel tab — is dressed in a “Cradle Pink” color scheme with “Jolly Green,” cream and black accents. Its palette and the anime-style flower embellishment on the insole are inspired by an uncommon act, namely trail running while wearing a dress. On the other hand, Liang’s take on the RX Moc 3.0 supplies a white and black color scheme with a sheer upper that seems to nod to the designer’s affection for ballet slippers, and a flower graphic on the insole. Both pairs are completed by co-branded detailing on the top of the foot. “There is a sportiness to Salomon that resonates with me,” says Liang. “Growing up in the ’90s, I loved wearing sneakers.”

Expect the Sandy Liang x Salomon collection to release via the Salomon webstore and a select network of global retailers on May 5. The XT-6 Expanse is priced at $190 USD, while the RX Moc 3.0 retails for $110 USD.
