size? Revives adidas Originals' Japan-Exclusive AS 230

British sneaker retailer size? and adidas Originals continues its “Archive Series” with the re-release of the historic AS 230 silhouette.

The AS 230 was first released as a Japan-special in the 1980s, coming to the market as a Samba and Universal-referencing sneaker that was soon adopted by the Casuals and Terrace culture of the ’80s and ’90s in the United Kingdom. As fans of low-profile football-leaning shoes, the AS 230 quickly became a favorite, especially in classic and foolproof colorways.

As such, size? has decided to bring the archived style back for 2021 in two iconic colorways. Both pairs feature an upper made from plush navy blue suede, with one pair sporting baby blue leather stripes, a matching heel tab, and complementing tongue branding, while the other highlights the same details in yellow.

Elsewhere, we find retro metallic gold-toned branding on the mid-panel reading off “adidas 230,” and an equally vintage gum sole unit. Subtle Japanese graphics have been emblazoned over the insole in place of the label’s usual German branding, while navy leather lining rounds out the sneaker.

Both colorways of the adidas Originals AS 230 will drop exclusively on size?’s website via a raffle ending March 4 at 8 a.m. GMT, costing £75 GBP a pair (approx. $105 USD). Find out more information on the size? blog.
