Before nabbing the starring role on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Andy Samberg was hardly an unknown. The funnyman joined “Saturday Night Live” in 2005 and lives in “SNL” infamy for his part in skits like “D*** In a Box” and “I’m On a Boat” in addition to his movie roles in films like “Celeste and Jesse Forever.” Since achieving sitcom and more mainstream fame, he’s been able to expand into two new jobs in the entertainment industry — production and voice work. He’s produced films like “7 Days in Hell” and the show “PEN*5.” He’d done a small amount of voice work before joining the cast of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” but now is regularly in movies like “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” and the “Hotel Transylvania” franchise. He was engaged when the show premiered but has since married musician Joanna Newsom. The two welcomed a daughter in 2017.

The role of Terry Jeffords, a detective sergeant and lieutenant in the precinct, has been played by Terry Crews since season 1.
In the 14 years before “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Terry Crews seamlessly transitioned from football to the comedy world, but scoring a role in the fictional police department has by far been his biggest success. He’s had opportunities to expand beyond acting since 2013 — he wrote his autobiography “Manhood: How to Be a Better Man or Just Live with One” and hosted “America’s Got Talent.” In 2017, he made headlines when he came forward to share that he was part of the #MeToo movement — he revealed he’d been groped by a male executive the year prior. He continues to use his fame to advocate for women’s rights and fight sexism too.
Amy Santiago, a detective-turned-sergeant, is played by Melissa Fumero.
Melissa Fumero transitioned from soap star to sitcom star when she landed a part on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Melissa has parlayed her network TV fame into appearances on numerous reality shows like “Hollywood Game Night,” “$100,000 Pyramid” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” She also became a mom while filming “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” welcoming sons Enzo and Axel in 2016 and 2020, respectively, with actor husband David Fumero. (She married her former “One Life to Live” co-star in 2007.)
Captain Raymond Jacob Holt, the 99th Precinct’s strict commanding officer, is played by Andre Braugher.
Andre Braugher’s life changed the moment he signed on to “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” as he went from serious, Juilliard-educated actor to comedian. In an interview with Variety, he described joining the show as “a second act. I feel as though new life has been breathed into my career.” He had to miss out on an exciting opportunity due to COVID-19. In February 2020, worried about the blooming pandemic, he dropped out of the play “Birthday Candles” before Broadway fully shut down.
Stephanie Beatriz has played Detective Rosa Diaz since the beginning of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
Stephanie Beatriz’s career took off with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” so her life has changed drastically since season 1. The police sitcom opened many doors for the actress, who’s done voice work on “BoJack Horseman” and “Encanto,” won praise for her work in the independent drama “The Light of the Moon” and appeared in the acclaimed Lin-Manuel Miranda film adaptation of “In The Heights” in 2021. Stephanie made headlines when she came out as a bisexual woman in 2016 and again in 2018 when she married Brad Hoss. The couple announced in June 2021 that they’re expecting their first child.
Chelsea Peretti played Gina Linetti, a civilian administrator in the precinct, between 2013 and 2019.
Chelsea Peretti left “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2019 but that hasn’t kept her from continuing to collaborate with her former castmates. In 2020, Chelsea released a musical comedy concept album, “Foam and Flotsam,” which featured former co-star Terry Crews. It’s not only work that’s evolved since 2013: In 2015, she got engaged to her boyfriend of two years, filmmaker and Oscar-winning screenwriter Jordan Peele, and they eloped in 2016. The two welcomed their first child, Beaumont Gino, in 2017.
Clumsy Detective Charles Boyle is played by Joe Lo Truglio.
Joe Lo Truglio’s most well-known role is on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” but since the show premiered, he’s also had the chance to revisit one of his other best known projects: “Wet Hot American Summer.” He appeared in the prequel and sequel series on Netflix. Joe became husband after becoming a television detective, marrying Beth Dover in 2014. They’ve worked together on both the “Wet Hot” franchise, “Burning Love” and an episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He also became a father — son Eli was born in 2016.
Dirk Blocker (left) plays Michael Hitchcock, a clueless detective.
Dirk Blocker got the biggest break of his career with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Before landing the show, his biggest credit was in 1976 on “Baa Baa Black Sheep,” which ran through 1978. The former teacher has had one particularly special door open up for him since he accepted the role of Michael Hitchcock: He penned the children’s book “Master and the Little Monk” in 2017.
Joel McKinnon Miller (left) plays Norman “Norm” Scully, Michael Hitchcock’s best friend and work partner of more than 30 years.
Joel McKinnon Miller had a steady career before playing Scully, most notably on “Big Love” as Don Embry, and had been working steadily since 1991. With his role on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Joel ‘s enjoyed another go at steady television work away from the grind of auditions and single-episode stints.
