Marvel Studios has dropped off the official trailer for its upcoming Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel.
The series centers on Muslim-American Jersey girl Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), who attempts to navigate high school as a superpowered human with the ability to shape-shift, stretch her limbs and alter her appearance. Between scenes showing classmates making fun of Kamala by mispronouncing her name and shots of the teenage hero fawning over a shirtless boy at a party in the trailer, the show appears to serve as Ms. Marvel’s origin story.
“It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world,” Kamala says before the trailer cuts through a series of fantastical shots of the emerging hero’s superpowers.
Vellani stars alongside Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Matt Lintz, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff and several others. Episodes are directed by several top-shelf players, including Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, based on scripts led by head writer Bisha K. Ali.
Ms. Marvel will be available to stream on Disney+ on June 8. Watch the trailer above.
In case you missed it, HBO Max has released the official trailer for Tokyo Vice.
