The UNC Tar Heels Football Team Receives New Air Jordan 5 PE

Jordan Brand has blessed the UNC Tar Heels football team with a brand-new Air Jordan 5 PE. As the official outfitter of many collegiate athletic departments across the country, the Jumpman is no stranger to crafting school-specific player edition footwear, but few outfits besides the Oregon Ducks can lay claim to the volume of PEs received by the Tar Heels, Michael Jordan‘s alma mater.

From Air Jordan 1s to Air Jordan 6s, the Tar Heels have seen their signature powder blue appear on some of the most famous Air Jordan models, and the 5 is the latest in that long lineage. Uppers feature a full elephant-printed pattern — somewhat reminiscent of the Air Jordan 5 3Lab5 — swathed entirely in powder blue and accented by the midfoot’s white plastic netting. Laces are white as well and equipped with a special Tar Heel-branded toggle.

Suede tongues bring UNC’s secondary navy blue hue into the mix and add an embroidered white logo. This graphic detailing continues on the heel, which features a classic embroidered Nike Air hit. Down below, the white midsole dresses its P-51 Mustang fighter plane-inspired forefoot detail in powder blue-sprinkled navy. Clear heel Air units and icy blue outsoles round off the look.

This Air Jordan 5 PE will not see a retail release, as it’s a special colorway crafted exclusively for UNC Football players and staff.
