The fight has been in the making for a few years now with both fighters having trained with one another and celebrated each other’s successes as well as supported each other in their defeats. The trailer reveals just how close the two fighters once were and when things took a turn for the worse. Masvidal narrates how he met Covington when they were recruited to be fighters for the American Top Team, one of the best gyms for MMA.
In 2018, Covington became the UFC interim welterweight champion when he defeated Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 225. Covington narrates that this was when things went array between him and Masvidal, “Soon as I won the interim title, that’s when Jorge got jealous. He wasn’t truly happy for me and my success. I am doing better in life and he is just a jealous little bitch.”
