Showtime has unveiled the five-minute opening sequence from its upcoming sci-fi series The Man Who Fell to Earth.
The clip, which arrived following the series’ world premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, provides a first-look at Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s alien character arriving on Earth on a mission to become a tech revolutionary. Along with Ejiofor, the series stars Naomie Harris, Jimmi Simpson, Rob Delaney, Sonya Cassidy, Joana Ribeiro, Annelle Olaleye, Kate Mulgrew, Clarke Peters and Bill Nighy.
The Man Who Fell to Earth takes inspiration from Walter Tevis’ novel of the same moniker and the esteemed 1976 David Bowie movie; however, the main character in Showtime’s episodic take will be different to those in previous versions.
Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, who previously worked together on Star Trek: Discovery and the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, adapted the series for television. Meanwhile, Kurtzman and Lumet exeuctive produced the show alongside John Hlavin, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Ejiofor, Rola Bauer and Françoise Guyonnet.
The Man Who Fell to Earth will premiere on Showtime on April 24. Watch the opening scene above.
