Ben Fogle has been ridiculed online after suggesting the country sing Happy Birthday from their windows amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Taking to Twitter, the adventurer, 46, addressed his 462,000 followers and penned: ‘At 9am 21st April, we are calling on the whole country to sing Happy Birthday from our windows and doorsteps. Let our song bring good cheer not just to Her Majesty but to the whole nation #singforthequeen.’
However, it wasn’t long before Ben’s post was trending on the social media platform for all the wrong reasons.
‘No Ben Fogle, you can’t have a knighthood!’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘Heartwarming: When Ben Fogle asked everybody to sing Happy Birthday to the queen the nation came together to tell him to f*** off.’

A third added: ‘Genuinely getting cold sweats at the thought of a neighbour catching me doing this,’ while a fourth added: ‘Heartwarming: When Ben Fogle asked everybody to sing Happy Birthday to the queen the nation came together to tell him to f*** off.’
Ben shared the message alongside a photograph of Her Majesty’s coronavirus message, which can be seen illuminated across the 146ft-wide billboard at Piccadilly Circus as Britain’s lockdown continues.
Meanwhile, others retaliated with a series of other suggestions on what the nation could do on that day.
‘At 9am on the 21st April we are calling on the whole country to laugh from their windows and doorsteps at what a ridiculous idea this is,’ commented one.
Taking to Twitter, one person commented: ‘I’d rather stand outside and cry for the dead and their loved ones if you don’t mind’
A second wrote: ‘This is a nice idea but I’m clapping for the PM at 0830, dancing for the Police at 9AM, jazz hands for the judiciary at 0930 and arm waving for the army at 10AM so no real time for this,’ while a third penned:
‘I’ll be working. I’ll be well into a 12.5h shift as a staff nurse. And you won’t hear men through the PPE.’
A further added: ‘I’d rather stand outside and cry for the dead and their loved ones if you don’t mind.’
Since receiving the barrage of criticism, Ben took to Twitter again, this time sharing a video of himself with his nine-year-old daughter and penned:
‘Some of the responses seem pretty mean spirited to a well intentioned idea from a 9 year old.’
‘I have always taught my children to be kind and thoughtful. We watched the speech with 24 million other people and Iona thought it would be a nice way to say thank you. Kindness matters.’
