Bill and Melinda Gates are officially divorced, Fox Business can confirm.
According to court documents, the couple’s marriage of 27 years is officially over in the eyes of the law. In docs obtained by Fox Business, a judge signed off on their divorce Monday, putting an end to the saga that began when they announced their split in May of 2021.
"This marriage is irretrievably broken," the filings read and presses that the parties "should be ordered to comply with the terms of the separation contract."
The filings also maintain that while neither party will receive spousal support, Melinda will also not change her last name and that by adhering to the terms of the "separation contract," essentially the agreement Bill and Melinda verbally made when they made the decision to divorce, those are the parameters to which the split will determine who will receive what. It is unclear what the separation agreement entails.
Furthermore, since the former couple shares adult children, the inclusion of child support and a custody agreement is rendered moot.
