B&Q website down after DIY shop tells customers to order online as it closes stores

B&Q's website is down this morning, leaving shoppers unable to buy from the hardware chain after it closed all UK stores.

The DIY retailer had previously told all customers to order online after shutting shops due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A message on the retailer's website DIY.com reads: "Sorry, our techies are currently working on diy.com.

"We know you're keen to get on with your home improvement project…we'll be back soon."

Customers are being advised to contact B&Q on 03330 143 098 although lines are expected to be extremely busy.

B&Q shops have been closed since March 24, although customers have been able to order products for home delivery and click and collect.

Customers have been allowed to pick up click and collect orders from outside closed stores.

To minimise contact with fellow shoppers, staff have been bringing orders to customers' cars.

We've asked B&Q for more information on what's causing the website issue and we'll update this article when we know more.

It comes after Boris Johnson warned this week that all "non-essential" shops are to shut – although hardware stores count as essential.

Other establishments that are allowed to stay open include supermarkets, pharmacies, newsagents, banks and Post Offices.

Vets, pet shops, petrol stations, launderettes, banks and hardware stores will also keep doors open for customers.

Before the coronavirus outbreak, B&Q stores were typically open 7am until 9pm.

We've rounded up the latest opening hours and updates from Wickes, Screwfix and Homebase.
