The owners of a café have responded to a customer’s very scathing one star review which saw her complain about being charged £9 for extra slices of toast.
A customer named Sara took to Google reviews to slam the Shambles Café in Lytham Saint Annes, Lancashire for what she felt was extortionately-priced bread.
She claimed that she had to fork out £9 for bread to accompany the soup she’d also ordered.
Sara said: ‘What a shame about this little restaurant, a nice little place utterly spoiled by terrible customer service and [is] overpriced.
‘We ordered 2 soups and asked for an extra roll with each. We obviously expected to pay for the extra rolls.’
She said they were disappointed that the ‘soups came with 2 very small thin toasted slices of sourdough not soft rolls’.
The user, known as Sara Clare took to Google reviews two days ago to slam the Shambles Café in Lytham Saint Annes, Lancashire for what she felt was extortionately priced bread
‘What we didn’t expect was to be charged £9 for the extra bread. £9 for 4 TINY thin slithers of rock hard bread,’ she added..
‘I spoke to the owner who was just so rude asking why I expect food for free. He wouldn’t listen when I tried to explain I expected to pay for it, but that the price was extortion!’
She concluded: ‘He told me he doesn’t care and for me to put a bad review on here, so here it is.’
The owners responded shortly after and claimed: ‘You seemed very happy yesterday when I served you and checked on you twice!
‘You had the menu in your hand that says the soup is served with toasted sourdough bread. It also shows that we charge for extra bread (in our breakfast section).
Sara claimed that she had to fork out £9 for bread to accompany the soup she’d also ordered but the owners of what appears to be an independently run business then told her that customers are warned of these additional costs beforehand
‘There is also menu outside our restaurant. Therefore, if you are not happy with the prices then please don’t come in.
‘In regards to this morning phone call- you demanded a refund. You didn’t ask for it, you demanded it’.
The Shambles Café concluded their review with allegations that Sara threatened the establishment with a bad review if they didn’t issue her a refund.
They then sarcastically quipped: ‘Hope you have a wonderful day and you feel better now! Kind Regards’.
Despite Sara’s savage review, The Shambles Café in Lytham St Annes maintains a 3.5 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor based on 41 reviews.
