Care home residents are treated to a life drawing session

Beats afternoon bingo! Care home residents are treated to a life drawing session from the comfort of their armchairs after asking for a ‘nice, handsome man’ to pose for them

  • Care home residents were pictured smirking as they took part in life drawing
  • The amateur artists squinted hard to focus on the male nude model
  • The class was such a hit that residents have been promised more in the future

A group of women living in a care home had a wonderful time honing their art skills in a life-drawing session with a male nude model.

Members at the Sherwood Grange residential home in Kingston Vale, West London, sat down on Wednesday for their life drawing class – and photos show the residents were very happy with their subject.

Rosemary Lester, one of the residents in the session, was pictured closing one eye so she could properly focus on her subject while he posed with one leg propped up on a stool and carrying a ski pole.

Another resident, Mollie Wheeldon, was pictured with a subtle grin on her face while one of the care home staff put her arm around her.

Budding art student Rosemary Lester closed one eye to get a better look at her subject and to ensure she produced an accurate work

Pencil in hand, Rosemary observed the model, who was posing with a ski pole and his leg raised on a stool

Stay there and don’t move! Rosemary needed to make sure the angle she was capturing was perfect

Later when Mollie was asked what she most enjoyed about the session, she replied: ‘I can’t answer that!’

She added: ‘It was great fun to do something different – I found it very relaxing.’

Keeping things professional, budding art prodigy Jenny Proudlove was pictured diligently getting on with her drawing – while a well-placed glass in the shot covered up the model’s private area.

The art students, who were all women, were pictured proudly displaying their artwork at the end of their session.

Resident Mollie Wheeldon smirked as she took a closer look at her subject, while a staff member looked at her knowingly

Mollie (pictured second from right), said she found the session ‘relaxing’

The art prodigies looked deep in concentration as they focused on creating their masterpieces

At the end of the session the students proudly displayed their works of art for the camera – and have been promised they’ll be able to take another life drawing class soon

Kristina Jacunskiene, manager of Sherwood Grange, said the afternoon had been ‘memorable’ for residents and staff alike.

She said: ‘Life in our care home is all about helping people to enjoy more independent and fulfilling lives – and today that meant doing something out of the ordinary and creating a memorable experience.

‘Sadly the session had to draw to a close – but based on the response we had from the residents and the fabulous drawings they created, we will certainly be welcoming more models in the future.’

Sherwood Grange, which is run by Care UK, has an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission.

Its website says residents ‘enjoy a truly wonderful lifestyle, full of varied and enriching creative activities and experiences’.
