Colleague has turned against me and I have no idea how to talk to her about it

DEAR DEIDRE: A COLLEAGUE has turned against me and I have no idea how to talk to her about it. I’m a 41-year-old guy who has mild autism.

She used to like me and made time to speak to me. But now that’s all over after a petty misunderstanding because she thought I’d left extra work for her out of laziness.

She is 35. I really wish she hadn’t turned on me like this.

I don’t feel able to approach her. I can’t go to my manager as they are friends. I have made a real effort to be kind, but she just chucks it back at me each time.

DEIDRE SAYS: Be civil and polite, focus on your work and do your best to treat her the way you would want to be treated.

Understand that some people might distance themselves from you but try to accept it and rise above it while focusing on building other relationships.

If you can mentally draw a line under this, you will feel more comfortable at work.
