A couple have been labelled ‘cringey’ and ‘insensitive’ for revealing their engagement on Facebook in the style of a pregnancy announcement.
Earlier this month, the anonymous couple – believed to be from the UK – shared their happy news with their loved ones online.
The loved-up pair posted two photos of themselves wearing caps that read ‘BRIDE’ and ‘GROOM’.
In the first image, the woman holds a fake sonogram with black-and-white photos of her hands to show off her diamond engagement ring.
The second image shows the pair looking lovingly at each other as they hold up a pregnancy test which has ‘WEDDING’ written on it.

They jokingly captioned the post: ‘WE’RE EXPECTING!!! COMING SOON, JULY 2024!!!’
‘ONLY 9 MONTHS LEFT TILL OUR WEDDING!!’
Although the post amassed 87 ‘likes’ on Facebook, the post didn’t set well with one of their Facebook friends – who then posted screenshots on Reddit.
Inviting others to comment, the unimpressed friend wrote: ‘This is the cringiest wedding countdown I’ve ever seen. She’s not pregnant.’
The announcement sparked equally heated debate in the comments – with several pointing out how confusing it would be for loved ones.
One replied: ‘I originally thought they were getting married only because they got pregnant.’
‘The “wedding” text over the pregnancy test is sending me,’ another added. ‘This is so stupid.’
A third: ‘Lol. They probably had to explain this a million times.’

‘Man, this is stupid as hell,’ a fourth said. ‘The fact that one photo is the back of his head while it’s fully focused on her face and her ring tells me all I need to know.’
Meanwhile, others argued that it was insensitive to those who were trying to conceive.
‘Insensitive, cringey and badly executed,’ one critic said. ‘They’ve hit the trifecta.’
Speaking from personal experience, another said: ‘Any fake pregnancy jokes are insensitive. Period. Now whether it’s triggering or not is different for different people and what they’ve experienced.
‘But as someone struggling with infertility and just coming off of a miscarriage, I would be hurt if I saw a friend post a fake pregnancy announcement. That aside yes it is tacky in general.’
