Love Island fans have been left seriously concerned after Casey O’Gorman decided to sleep outside in ‘windy’ and ‘cold’ South Africa – but how bad is the weather at the moment? And is it safe to sleep outside?
In Tuesday’s episode, Casey was pulled for a chat by his current partner Lana Jenkins who told him that her heart was still with her former flame Ron Hall.
After her conversation, she made no attempt to hide her attraction from Ron, giving him a full kiss in front of everybody – including Casey.
Having seen that, he decided not to share a bed with Lana and said he would be sleeping outside.
Now fans have been worried about how he would fare in the windy and cold conditions of South Africa, where the show is taking part.
One person wrote: “Casey sleeping outside is somehow worse knowing how windy that place is”.
Another added: “What about the bed downstairs? It’s windy outside? Poor Casey.”
It’s not the first time that viewers have noticed the gales either.
“I’m sorry but they all look freezing in this wind, may as well be set in the UK,” one fan pointed out on Twitter on the opening night of the show.
“I’ll say it again – picking South Africa as a destination was such a bad idea. It’s so cold and windy every night,” added another.
A third wrote: “Catching up on Love Island, is anyone utterly distracted by how windy it is? Call me over 30, but it doesn't look enjoyable at all!”
So, just how cold is it in the Villa right now?
The new villa, which boasts an olympic-sized swimming pool, is on the sprawling 25-acre estate in the middle of Franschhoek, near Cape Town.
According to weather forecasts this week and for tonight, the current highs at 30C – really good weather if you’re used to UK climates.
However, at night, the temperature drops to around 15C with a wind speed of 11mph and gusts of 29mph.
For reference a speed of 11mph is considered a gentle to moderate breeze with large branches beginning to sway and small trees loosing their leaves.
However gusts of 29mph are considered to be ‘nearly gale’ and Weather.gov website has suggested that it would be an ‘inconvenience to walk against the wind’ or keep an umbrella under control.
According to outdoors retailer Mountain Warehouse it is safe to sleep outside in stronger winds without a tent or shelter, but ‘it is harder to stay warm’ which could make you unwell.
