There’s no denying that Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, has one fabulous head of hair.
From her signature bouncy blow dry to that time she dabbled with a full fringe, the royal is easily already one of history’s biggest beauty icons. Who can forget her beautiful half-up hairstyle worn on her wedding day 10 years ago?
After stepping out with fabulously full tresses earlier this month, royal enthusiasts couldn’t help but wonder if the duchess has had some help to enhance her natural lengths – so naturally we asked an expert for their opinion on the matter.
“We’re speculating that Kate Middleton may have had hair extensions as her hair has grown,” says Olia Cutz, founder of London hair extension salon The Extensionist. “Hair extensions can be placed in the hair so invisibly nowadays so even members of the royal family can have extensions fitted.”
“In our opinion, we would say that Kate’s look is subtle, but if you are in the hair extension business then you can spot it. It looks to us that Kate may be following in the foot-steps of her sister-in-law Meghan Markle, who has also been known to enhance her hair as well.”
As for which type of hair extensions the duchess may have opted for?
“There are so many undetectable hair extensions methods these days. Kate could easily have had tapes or ultra bonds – incredibly tiny strands of hair extensions,” Olia tells us. “If she does have extensions, they look virtually undetectable!”
At The Extensionist, this would set you back several hundred pounds depending on length and hair type.
She adds, "If she has had extensions we assume she had individual strands of keratin bonds, as you can hide them perfectly and no one will ever see them, even if you wear your hair up."
Unlike many salons, The Extensionist allows customers to reuse bonds, which saves on money and waste. It has also recently launched a new type of “invisible” extensions, Ultra Bonds, that are such small strands you can barely spot them.
“The bonds are applied meticulously, strand by strand, using a bespoke micro extension fusion machine specifically designed for the application of the tiny bonds,” Olia adds.
So while it’s highly unlikely (read: impossible) that you’ll ever hear the duchess comment on exactly what she’s had done to her hair, that won’t stop us from wanting to copy pretty much every beauty look that Kate Middleton steps out with.
