FEMAIL columnist CHRISTA D'SOUZA, 59, argues more 'Older Person' sex

FEMAIL columnist CHRISTA D’SOUZA, 59, argues the more ‘Older Person’ sex is normalised on TV the less it will be perceived as the ultimate taboo

Sexagenarian Woman Has Torrid Sex Life. This should not be news, and yet as I watched GoldDigger, the BBC drama — in which Julia Ormond plays a woman who has just hit 60 and embarks on a passionate affair with a man half her age — I felt we were charting new, daring territory here.

Ormond (54 in real life) could easily pass for 60. And to be honest, having been duped for so long into thinking, courtesy of Hollywood, as 60 year olds we are meant to look 40 I found myself watching the screen through my fingers when the sex bits came on.

But why? If we boomers are so shocked about people our age having passionate sex on the telly, as good a form of ageism as any, how on earth do we expect our youngers not to be shocked (and revolted) too?

More, please, then, of Ormond and her like writhing around in bed with their perfectly normal apron bellies, wrinkles and folds.

The more ‘Older Person’ sex is normalised by the BBC, Netflix, Sky, HBO et al (the folks who really pull the strings when it comes to attitudes and cultural beliefs), the less it will continue to be perceived as the ultimate taboo.
