He set up George Allan’s Greengrocers in 1989, which reportedly built to have a turnover of £7.5million.
The 56-year-old added to his fortune as he opened the restaurants Wallace & Co and Gregg’s Bar & Grill.
His presenter career began when he co-presented Veg Talk on BBC Radio 4.

John Torode net worth
The TV chef has a fortune of around £7million, according to Celeb Worth.
The Australian-born chef moved to the UK in 1991 and soon began his media career.
He appeared on the small screen as a chef on This Morning in 1996, and will still make regular appearances.
He previously opened two restaurants in London named the Luxe, which reportedly had a turnover of £9.2million before he sold them.
The 55-year-old has also topped up his bank balance by releasing a range of cookbooks.
He has also fronted TV shows including John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure and John Torode’s Australia.
While John has hosted MasterChef for many years, his salary has not been confirmed.
When not appearing on MasterChef or This Morning, John is often seen on John And Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen, with his wife Lisa Faulkner.
He has also topped up his bank balance with the release of cookbooks over the years.
