Holby City cast pay tribute as filming ends forever

Holby City cast past and present have been paying tribute throughout the day as filming ends forever.

Following the announcement of the show’s cancellation, cast and crew are working together for one final time today, ahead of the last episode in March next year.

Back in June, a statement on the breaking news read: ‘We are incredibly proud of Holby City but it’s with great sadness that we are announcing that after 23 years, the show will end on screen in March of next year.’

Since 1999, Holby City has provided an insight into the life of working for the NHS.

As the Coronavirus pandemic began last March, a weekly clap for carers began to pay tribute to the NHS key workers, people displayed rainbows everywhere as a symbol of hope and solidarity, our love for the NHS has been shown like never before over the past year.

From romance, cancer, mental health, right through to nurse’s going on strike, Holby City have covered vital and powerful storylines that have helped people learn and saved lives.

As the hospital set lights are switched off later today, cast, crew and fans are sharing the love as tributes continue to flood in.

Cast members from Casualty are also sharing the love.

Mike Stevenson, who plays paramedic Iain Dean, wrote: ‘Sending friends and colleagues on both sides of the camera all the love today as you film your final scenes. 23 amazing years. We salute you all’.

Ethan Hardy actor George Rainsford posted: ‘To all my friends at @BBCHolbyCity, enjoy your last day. I can only imagine the emotions you’ll be feeling. You’re all such amazing, talented people. My time there has always been met with a wonderful sense of kindness and camaraderie. See you on the other side!’.
