How do I tell my oldest friend that I'm over our friendship? | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: EVERY time I see my oldest friend, I feel bored and can’t wait to get away.

We’ve grown apart. I don’t want to be mates now but don’t know how to tell him.

We’re 17 and have been friends since primary school.

But he’s obsessed with gaming, while I’ve developed  a love of mountain-biking.

I’ve got a girlfriend too.

What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: People change and friendships don’t always last. But sometimes one friend cannot let go.

Try to minimise contact gradually until you no longer speak much.

If that’s not possible, you may have to be honest. Say you care about him but have changed and want to spend more time with your girlfriend and pursuing other interests.

My support pack, Standing Up For Yourself, explains  how to do this without causing unnecessary offence.
