Millions will be stung with energy bill hikes in just days, with the typical household paying £2,500 a year instead of £1,971.

Many are looking at ways of cutting their usage to save money – and one solution is to use energy guzzling appliances less.

Dehumidifiers are used to help get rid of damp in homes.

They could be a good way of keeping your home damp-free while drying your clothes inside on a clothes horse.

It comes as many households are looking to switch off their tumble dryers this winter to avoid a £104.52 a year bill blow – and dry their clothes using cheaper methods.

How much does it cost to run a dehumidifier?

According to Which?, a dehumidifier could be driving your annual energy bill up by nearly £30.

If you use a dehumidifier for one hour every day, it will cost you £28.52 a year, Which? estimates.

That's based on figures on how much energy will cost under the new energy price guarantee (EPG) tariff.

Bills had been due to hit £3,500 under Ofgem's energy price cap, but this has been replaced the EPG – which will freeze bills at £2,500 a year for the typical family.

However, exactly how much you'll be paying to run your dehumidifier depends on the model, and how often you use it.

For example, one Sun reader was paying £550 a year to keep her dehumidifier running round the clock all year.

How much do other household appliances cost to run?

The price of running your dishwasher will cost 27p per cycle from October according to Compare The Market.

That means it will cost £98.55 a year if you use it once every day all year.

How much it costs to run your TV will vary depending on the model – but it can cost up to £36.25 a year.

Microwaves cost up to £17.16 a year if you're using it for one hour a week for a year.

How can I get help with my energy bill?

Energy suppliers offer support for those who are struggling to pay their bills.

Those on Universal Credit and older legacy benefits could get over £3,000 in bill support.

There are plenty of energy grants and schemes open to help you out if you're struggling.

British Gas has recently confirmed that it'll pay its most vulnerable customers grants worth £750 to help with sky-high bills.
