There's no party quite like a Kardashian party, from their over the top extravaganzas to launch a product from their global empire or to celebrate one of their children's birthdays like Kylie Jenner's recent Stormi World bash.
Always plastered over Instagram, they have the secret ingredient to throwing an soirée to remember – money, and lots of it.
But there's some things you can do that will still achieve that celebrity sparkle, on a much smaller budget. While you'll still need a few hundred pounds, our party planner to the stars says there's always a way to upscale your party and make a splash.
Keziah Wildsmith is a world-renowned events designer and the brains behind Heaps + Stacks which runs event production for big name brands such as M&S, Primark, Nasty Gal and Ugg.
She knows how to create an impact when it comes to parties especially in the Instagram age, where looks are everything.
The secret to making an impact on your party is by getting your creative juices flowing – like paying more attention to your invites, your own step and repeat perfect for capturing your red carpet ready looks as you arrive, and even more imaginative ideas for souvenirs so that your attendees will want to share everything they've experienced.
Invites
The invite is key to announcing your big theme and getting people excited for what’s to come at the party. E-invites are very easy to do and because of this we’d say avoid – it's dull!
For a 90s theme summer party you could send your favourite guests something like this mini fridge which can be filled with retro refreshments, or mini bottles of Patron and personalised shot glasses to get them amped up for what’s to follow. With this you could also pick out magnets to stick on the front and spell out the guest’s name, or an in-joke!
Step and Retweet
Once guests arrive in the venue they need to start capturing that content. For a recent press event at The Standard Hotel we created a step and repeat out of builders bricks and potted plants which was relatively easy and low cost and might be something you already have at home and can arrange nicely.
For this we used a combo of breeze blocks and normal bricks and layered them up (with the help of two strong men).
Food Stations
For the food and drink, we suggest serving up classics which everyone likes but styling them up to make them seem extra special.
You can buy drink stencils online which could include the theme of your party or even your name. These stencils are then placed onto a cocktail or mocktail using coco powder (or other flavours of your drink) to create a design on the surface.
Heap + Stacks have used personalised burger flags, cocktail umbrellas, grease proof paper (on the bottom of a serving tray) and even made faux branded up “Happy Meal” style boxes to serve food in at our events.
Creative Stations
A good DJ and food isn’t enough. People want something they can take home – a highly stylish souvenir if you will!
Depending on your theme there’s a million things you could do here to add a little more engagement. A cute idea is to buy some tattoo paper and design your own temporary tattoo designs which can include your key party themes or again the names of the party hosts for the guests to embellish themselves with.
Another more delicate idea for a take home could be a mochi decorating station (perfect to accompany a Japanese Karaoke theme party) where guests can add edible artwork, flowers or edible googly eyes to the mochi and pop into a take home box.
Instagram Friendly Décor On a Budget
The most important thing about a Kardashian party is that every single thing needs to be Insta-friendly – details are everything!
If you want high coverage (and low costs) you can use tonnes of candles in glass jars or glasses (it doesn’t matter if they are all odd shapes, it adds to the effect) and layer them up to create a dramatic photo moment a bit like a shrine.
Or option B, you can use our personal favourite – shimmer curtains. They come in various bright colours which you can layer up and cut to length, and finish with a cluster of disco balls at the base.
