Iceland
Supermarket Iceland has closed at least 10 branches this year with one more closure confirmed this month.
The affected Iceland store is located in Wales and will be closing its doors on June 17. A spokesperson for Iceland explained that they “typically open more than 20 new stores each year”.
However, they “continually review Iceland Foods and The Food Warehouse store portfolio to ensure we’re delivering the best experiences” and they sometimes make a “small number of store closures every year”.
This could be after “local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire”.

Poundland
Poundland has closed at least 12 UK sites this year with one more closure taking place in June. Communications adviser at Poundland, Nick Agarwal, explained that “sadly from time to time a store closes for a number of different reasons”.
“Sometimes that’s because we’re relocating to a bigger unit where we can offer more (eg our new Ipswich store which will open this summer), sometimes to consolidate in an existing store that’s close by (eg Southport) and in some instances our lease expires and much to our disappointment, the landlord has other plans for that location (eg Kings Lynn and Stoke).”
The retailer will be opening or relocating 20 new stores before the end of the summer, creating up to 800 new jobs, the company revealed.
