I'm sofa-surfing and fear I will end up on the streets after prison release

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM homeless and sofa-surfing but fear I will be back on the streets in the near future.

I’ve not had it easy in life and recently came out of prison, aged 69, to no home.

I lost my house when I was jailed for handling stolen goods, though I thought I was helping a friend’s legitimate business.

The council said I had to wait on the housing list and that they would try to get me a place at a hostel in the meantime.

I keep asking but have had no luck. I suffer with arthritis and I am at my wits’ end. I have only my state pension to live on.

It is not surprising prisons are full. If I were younger I would commit another crime just to go back inside.

But I’m too old now and will have to freeze to death on the streets.
