Inside Faye Brookes’ life behind the camera from theatre director husband to famous ex

Faye Brookes had a fairy-tale wedding in the stunning countryside of the Cotswolds earlier this week. She said "I do" to Iwan Lewis, in an intricate off-the-shoulder gown.

Her brunette locks were swept into an elegant half-up half-down do and a veil flowed down her back. The former Corrie star looked sensational for the event, also clutching a bouquet of white flowers.

She's found her forever 10 months after she and Iwan got together and seven months after they got engaged.

The happy couple got married at Shipton Moyne Church in the Cotswolds surrounded by friends and family. As Faye prepares to settle into life as a newlywed, we take a look at her life behind the lens…

Husband and family life

After meeting more than 15 years ago and becoming firm friends, Faye and Iwan's relationship blossomed last year. They'd previously worked together as love interests Elle and Emmett in Legally Blonde in 2011, before their romance bloomed.

At one point, they were also flatmates. Last year, mutual friends got them back in touch and there was a time when both were single.

Iwan told OK!: “I wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip – Faye’s not been single!” "Even in Legally she wasn’t single, so there was a window of opportunity and I thought, ‘That’s it. I’m going for it.’”

After three months romantically together, Iwan popped the question with a beautiful platinum halo ring at their Cotswolds home.

Faye said of their engagement at the time: “It’s making my heart pound now because I still can’t believe we’re getting married,”

“It’s still sinking in for me. He took my breath away and I did get emotional. I never thought I would get my happy ending and I think we’ve waited this long to get our happy ending and it turned out to be the guy who was there the whole time.

“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, I can say that from the bottom of my heart. It’s a gut thing too. I’m not questioning anything.”

Now the loved-up couple have tied the knot and are looking to the future together in their Cotswolds home.

Famous ex

Faye dated Gareth Gates, a singer who found fame on Pop Idol, on and off for seven years. They briefly split in 2018 and later reconciled.

Gareth got down on one knee in January 2019 at a friend's high rise apartment in New York. The proposal was very emotional and Faye and Gareth were looking forward to a future together.

However, they called off their wedding that August as they were unable to make their relationship work.

A source told the Manchester Evening News at the time: "Faye and Gareth are both extremely sad about their relationship ending.

"They still care very much about each other and want to remain friends, but the wedding has been called off.

"Her family and close friends have been supporting her through the split. Although its a painful time she's trying to keep busy with various projects and auditions.

"They tried to make it work but sadly it's not meant to be."

Coronation Street

One of Faye's biggest roles of her career to date was her spell on the Cobbles. She played Kate Connor and made her first appearance on the soap in October 2015.

During her time in the show, she had a number of explosive storylines. One of her most memorable was her relationship with friend Rana Nazir which eventually saw them planning their wedding.

However, their nuptials ended in tragedy when Rana died in the Underworld factory collapse on their big day. Faye was in the soap from 2015-2019.

She bowed out of the series to go travelling, saying goodbye to the other Connors and Weatherfield in a special hour-long episode.

Other career moments

After her Coronation Street exit, Faye appeared on Dancing On Ice in 2020. She was originally partnered with Hamish Gaman but he had to withdraw due to an injury in Week 6.

Faye was then partnered with Matt Evers and came second, losing to Joe Swash. Since, she's played Roxie Hart in the UK tour of Chicago, a role which she really loved.

She's also been in gameshow Bridge of Lies as a celebrity contestant. Later this year, she's returning to her beloved Manchester to star in the stage version of Strictly Ballroom.

Faye told I Love Manchester: "The stage version of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom brings the film to life. It’s brilliant and bonkers.”
